Purchased Model Airways Fokker Eindecker E-IV. Kit No MA1050. Quality of metallic parts is extremely poor. Ordered replacement parts and a missing part. Quality of replacement part was almost as bad as the original. Now found more missing parts (2 wood strips critical for wing assembly). Tried to order those. They now want to charge me over $25 for shipping. I had to grind and rework multiple metal parts so that they were useable. I don't mind a challenging kit build. But, this kit introduces extra challenges because of poor quality control and bad kit stocking.

Parts are provided free but it takes 3 weeks

I am working on the Charles W. Morgan kit and am about halfway through. Early on I found that the kit was short two pieces of wood, compared with the parts list. I requested them and received them about three weeks after my request. Good, but they can be more time responsive. Later I discovered that one of the Britannia metal cast parts was defective and unusable. Again I submitted a request, and again I received the part without charge almost three weeks later. Today I discovered that a different Britannia metal part was never packed in the kit to begin with, and had to submit a third request, which I anticipate will take around three weeks. While Model Expo does provide these parts free and without hassle, waiting for the parts can be frustrating. When I am finished with this kit I will submit a review of the kit and I will have a lot to say about its quality, extending well beyond the annoyance of the kit not having been packed properly at the factory. Meanwhile, if you face a missing or defective part, I encourage you to request it as you will get it, without charge, although not rapidly.

Part support

Finally starting on Va Sloop having completed Gunboat Philadelphia. Did the very tedious inventory of parts which included wood measurements. I discovered a few missing items. Reality check to all. A single person assembles the items for each kit. My inventory was rather exhaustive at conclusion. It occurred to me that the poor team member who does this i am sure does more than one kit a day and perhaps kits which are even more demanding. Mistakes will be made! Relax. It may take time but they will get your parts to you! This is a hobby after all and the intent is to enjoy it and be at ease while building. Enjoy your project.
