I have built several higher end kits and decided to build a remedial skill level kit for fun and ease of construction. This kit is actually pretty challenging due to the operational center board and very thin planking. The top few planks came up short but proved easy to piece in and wood filler will cover any small gaps. The instructions are very good, but I don't like the glued hems on the sails and will sew mine with a machine. This is also known as a "Friendship sloop" and has beautiful lines. I have built the other 2 kits in the training series and this one will teach planking for more elaborate kits. They were more or less ready to form and glue, but still require fitting. Beyond this kit, you are on your own shaping the planks. The metal fittings are good and only need minor finishing with small files. The laser cut parts only need sanding to the finished shape, such as rounding the tiller and spars. I used sandpaper and files rather than a small plane to shape them. I would definitely recommend this pretty lady but maybe not for a total beginner. If you take your time it is a nice display and very satisfying to build.
