The Amerigo Vespucci was built in the port of Stabia in 1931. The Italian government still uses her as a floating school for training military cadets. Mantua's wooden model ship kit is designed from the plans of the original ship. Double plank-on-bulkhead construction uses limewood and walnut planing strips. All wooden parts are laser cut to accuracy. There are thousands of custom designed brass, cast metal and walnut fittings included for the life-like accuracy. Historical accuracy and high quality materials are unmatched. The details are is so exacting that each lifeboat is a plank-on-frame kit by itself.
