Precision Laser Cut Wood & Photo-Etched Brass Parts!

by Model Airways Wood and Metal Kit

Model Airways latest entry into the world of historic wood airplane kits is the most detailed and accurate Wright Flyer kit ever made! This true-to-life static model reproduces virtually every detail of the real aircraft. We've designed our model without the customary fabric covering to show its fascinating structural components.

Model Airways Wright Flyer kit contains laser cut basswood parts for ribs and other wooden components plus a host of Britannia metal parts for building the engine, complete with cylinders, magneto and radiator. We include brass chain and over 160 photo-etched brass parts for fittings and braces to simulate the Wright Brothers' construction methods. Three detailed, actual size plan sheets and a 28-page illustrated step-by-step assembly manual will assist both novice and expert modelers in the completion of a museum quality model.

Challenging but worth it
I've recently completed the wright flyer kit and it was Tough! It was only my second kit to build. Looking back I thought I took on too much but looking at the completed model, I'm delighted with the build. To say it frustrated the crap out of me is an understatement! It is extremely delicate. Even to touch. Very small parts throughout the build. But I can't really complain about that as its the attention to detail model expo provide. I think even an experienced modeller will find this a challenge. The only downside to the kit are the instructions. They really need to be revised and photos added imo. I've seen other comments about it and everyone seems to say the same. Some parts are very poorly explained and hard to understand. I had to do alot of research myself on Google like looking up photos of the actual plane and following builds online. That helped alot. I got great support from Ed in the parts department and he sent me loads of pictures of their build. It's slightly different from the kit but it helped me loads so thanks Ed. It's a very slow build. Some parts just took up so much time because they were so small and time consuming that I found myself walking away from it several times. But I always came back :) I am really pleased with the end product though. If you want a challenge then this is for you. It's doable for beginners too because like I said, it's only my second build, so I don't have alot of experience. I think it'll challenge anyone who tries it. I'd have given it full marks if it weren't for the instructions because even though they were a challenge on their own, it's a beautiful kit when complete.
