Brief History
The cutter LE CERF was built based on the plans of the well-known French ship designer, Denys. The CERF was launched on March 2, 1779 in the Saint-Malo dockyard. Command of the ship was conferred on Ensign Varages. The ship was equipped with eighteen 6pdr guns. The ship’s crew totaled between 155 to 194 people (this numbers included officers, seamen, gunners and mariners).
