Conceptually, the idea of a covered armed wagon (as Leonardo called it) is a very old one. His vision is of a weapon that no one had ever even imagined and able to instill terror in one's enemies. However Leonardo does not offer very detailed elements, as if he were aware of the enormous difficulties in making such a weapon operational and, therefore, reduces everything to two images: the one that shows the terrifying impact of the many cannons mounted on the 360 degree structure; and the one that offers the split of the inner part with a view into the possible mechanism to make it move. There are no measurements or references other than the cannons. The problem of which Leonardo was certainly aware, is that to make it more effective, it would require a greater number of cannons. More cannons would require a larger wagon structure but would make it more difficult to maneuver. In Leonardo's drawing there are no less than 36 cannons, this model includes 10.
