Boats like this were used for oystering and crabbing in the Chesapeake Bay area ofMaryland from around 1850 to the 1940's. Called "flatties", they had a perfectly flat base afore the main frame, and gradually took on a V-section toward the stern. Stabilized by a central lee-board and wide rudder, flatties sailed into the open sea.
Easy-to-build kit features plank-on-bulkhead construction and fine detailing. Keel and frames are pre-cut plywood, and planking is tanganyka. Fittings include brass eyebolts, mast hoops, rings and deadeye strops, cast metal cleats, photo-etched brass hull gudgeons and chainplate. Rigging and canvas sail material are provided. Plans are on four sheets, and detailed instructions include painting plan and parts list.
