COREL DRAGONE RACING YACHT WOOD SHIP KIT
Wood Ship Model Kit by Corel
Fixed keel standard one design yachts like the Dragone were introduced into sailing competition in 1927. The type was quickly adopted by Scandinavia and Germany, and appeared in Great Britain in 1935. It held Olympic Class status from 1948 until 1972.
Corel's 1:25 scale replica is based on a French yacht of this class, built in the late 1940s. The kit also relies on original plans published for the I.Y.R.U. (International Yacht Racing Union) by the Royal Yachting Association in London. Plank-on-bulkhead construction uses die-cut wooden parts for keel, bulkheads and deck. A layer of flexible limewood is covered with rich walnut for the double-planked hull. Beech is provided for cabin components, rudder stock, rails and mast. Photo-etched brass provides realistic scale detail for masthead, straps and plates, boom saddle and collar. Brass fittings include winch, barrels, ship's wheel, boom joint, rings, eyebolts and turnbuckles. Steel wire is used for the upper shroud. Three diameters of beige rigging line, wooden blocks, Dacron sail material and silk-screened flags complete the kit. Five sheets of detailed plans plus instruction manual pave your way to trouble-free completion.
